HOBY UK student event at St Hilda’s
Dear year 10 parents,
We are holding an exciting event at St Hilda’s on Thursday 24th January 2019 for our year 10 students. HOBY UK will be coming into school to run a series of workshops. These workshops will be run by young people who have been part of the HOBY UK movement within the UK. As a school we actively encourage the development of our student’s leadership skills and have identified this programme as a particularly successful initiative.
On the day we will have workshops running from 12-4.30pm. Students will have a break in the middle (refreshments will be provided). If your child would like to attend please return the reply slip back to Mr Martin. There are limited places so it is first come first served.
We are also delighted to be welcoming students from other Liverpool schools to this event. The opportunity to work with students from across the city is one that shouldn’t be missed!
There will also be a short talk from HOBY UK about an upcoming residential opportunity. Students will be given the opportunity to attend an Easter residential leadership development seminar at the University of Chester (there is a cost to this event).
HOBY UK is a volunteer-led charity which aims to improve the life-outcomes for young people by developing their self-awareness and self-esteem, building their confidence and providing them with leadership skills. We bring together young people from different communities to share experiences and learn from each other. We empower and motivate them to become involved in social action, using their skills to effect positive change in their communities.
HOBY UK has eleven years’ experience running leadership seminars and during that time we have impacted on the lives of over 500 young people. In an on-line evaluation, every respondent rated last year’s event at Lancaster University as ‘outstanding’, giving examples of the transformative impact of the experience. The programme is aimed at 14-18 year-olds, although most delegates are from Year 10. It is equally suited to those already involved in leadership activities and young people with the potential to do well, but who lack confidence.
