Literacy Ambassadors and Reading Enrichment for college students
Literacy Ambassadors
Our literacy ambassadors work alongside the Librarian and the Head of English to promote reading throughout school. They organise events, come up with ideas to engage new readers, fundraise for the library and act as a go-between with the student body to collect feedback.
Reading Enrichment for college students
As one of the options for enrichment, our college students are given the opportunity to either attend Greenbank Primary School to support reading and literacy or work as a classroom assistant within our school, in the subject of their choice. Both of these roles allow our young people to give something back to younger pupils and to gain experience if they are planning a career working with children.
From September 2024, we will be offering the students phonics training before they embark on their chosen work with early years, primary or secondary support. This will culminate in a certificate in basic phonics training which they can expand on in practice and use to compliment any applications for early years or teaching qualifications.
