A message from me, Joan Stein, chair of governors to all our St. Hilda’s family – April 2020
What a few weeks we have all had; I think the lockdown has brought out the worst in some people, like the ones that suddenly decide they need enough toilet rolls to last for the next 12 months. Don’t they know what newspapers are for, but more importantly also the best in people. During the last few weeks I have experienced random acts of kindness, offers of help and wonderful cake supplied by a neighbour who is a nurse in Walton Neuro but found time to bake to keep his son amused whilst he is off school. What I am finding/saying is people adapt and by us all doing what we can we will get over this crisis.
What about school and exams? This is a big question, I can assure you we are prepared. At St. Hilda’s we have rigorous assessment procedures and staff are working from home to make sure the pupils and students in the examination groups will get a robust and fair examination grade. During the course of the academic year pupils and students have their work marked so the outcome of the teacher assessments should not be a surprise. One thing I can say is that it will be the same for every young person in the examination groups as every school will be going through a similar procedure. For the students in the A level group this time working from home should prepare them for the more independent style of learning that goes with a university course.
I have enjoyed going to my front door on a Thursday evening to clap for the NHS we even had fireworks last week. This has been the strangest Holy Week ever and although I have the service and readings for Easter Sunday it won’t be the same. All we can do is to continue to follow advice and to trust in God.
Please take care of yourselves and family for you are all in our thoughts.
Joan Stein
