Chemistry week – 19 -23 November – What FUN we had!
What FUN we had! (That’s – Fluorine, uranium and nitrogen of course!)
Many pupils and staff got involved in Chemistry week. On Monday we launched our inter-form competition….. what is the longest word you can make just using the symbols in the Periodic table. This proved to be very popular with over 150 entries. The winning words were: FlOCCInAuCINiHILiPILiFICaTion -28 letters –which means the act of valuing something as worthless. – Although it is not found in all dictionaries. No idea how to pronounce it!
NONRePReSeNTaTiONAlISmS – 23 letters.
UnPrOFeSSiONAlISatION – 21 letters
IrReSPONSiBILiTiEs – 18 letters
On Monday we also make some chemistry inspired Christmas decorations. On Wednesday we had our bake sale raising over £80 for the Science department chosen charity Worldwide Cancer Research. Chemistry is like cooking – just don’t lick the spoon!
Other lunchtime activities included: methane bubbles ………… very dramatic.
Our flaming metallic sugar cubes looked like they had come straight from Hogwarts.
We even had Chemistry inspirational leaders during reflection time each day and the weekly maths challenge had a chemistry focus.
