On Wednesday, 3 July, Ambassador Dr Peter Wittig welcomed the Anglo-German award-winning duo behind the best-selling children’s book “The Gruffalo” Julia Donaldson CBE and Axel Scheffler at his Residence to celebrate the outstanding achievements of teachers of German across the UK.
The annual German Teacher Award and the ‘Sommerfest der deutschen Sprache’ pay tribute to and recognise the best and most committed champions of German in primary and secondary schools across the UK. The ‘Sommerfest’ was attended by over 250 teachers and representatives from the education and language teaching sectors, as well as from the business sector and the media from all over the UK.
A “Special Mention” was awarded to Verena James, who was presented with a certificate and a book, and was accompanied to the event by Valerie Lloyd.
The German Teacher Award is jointly organised by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in London, the Embassy of Switzerland in the United Kingdom, the Goethe-Institut London, the Austrian Cultural Forum London, UK-German Connection, the Deutsche Schule London, the Departments for Education in England and Wales, and the Association for Language Learning.
