This is a fantastic achievement and recognition of Lochlan’s passion for the sport, leadership qualities and commitment to basketball. As one of the club’s first-ever Young Ambassadors, he will play an important role in helping to inspire young people and promote the game across the city. We are incredibly proud of Delight and Havien, who represented St Hilda’s with maturity during their visit to Spellow Library, which was rebuilt after being damaged during last summer’s riots. They met with Baroness Lawrence, Bridget Phillipson MP and Councillor Liam Robinson, speaking openly about their experiences of racism, the impact of the riots, and how our school community helps them feel safe, valued and supported. Sharing such personal experiences with people in positions of influence was not easy, but they did so with honesty, confidence and grace. We were delighted to welcome author and motivational speaker Tony Griffin to St Hilda's on 16 October to speak with our Year 9 pupils about his inspiring book, The Teenager's Book of Life. Drawing on his experiences as a curling athlete, the loss of his father and his own mental health journey, Tony delivered a powerful and honest message about resilience, self-belief and overcoming challenges. His authenticity and openness resonated deeply with our pupils, keeping them engaged from start to finish. One student described it as "the best talk I've ever been to because Tony was real", while another said they felt empowered after the session. The feedback from pupils was overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the impact of Tony's message and the importance of supporting our mental wellbeing. A huge thank you to Tony for spending the afternoon with us. ☕🎮 Gaming Coffee Afternoon for Parents A huge thank you to all the parents and carers who joined our recent Gaming Coffee Afternoon, led by Mrs Annemarie McDonagh and supported by our Designated Safeguarding Lead, E. Heague. The session explored how families can support children to enjoy gaming safely and positively, while building confidence in navigating the digital world. Through engaging activities and practical discussions, parents gained a greater understanding of online gaming, explored common safeguarding concerns, and shared experiences with one another. Together, we discussed three key areas: 🎮 Setting clear rules and boundaries around gaming 🛠️ Using parental controls and safety tools effectively 💬 Keeping communication open and supportive at home Parents found the session informative, reassuring and empowering, with many commenting on the value of sharing experiences and learning practical strategies to support their children online. We're delighted that the afternoon sparked meaningful conversations and strengthened our partnership with families.
