St Hilda’s LCQM celebration
St Hilda’s is committed to developing lifelong numeracy skills for staff and students and opportunities to enjoy maths outside of the maths classroom. These aims are the same as the Liverpool Counts initiative being run by the school improvement programme. In March of this year St Hilda’s was assessed as Silver for the Liverpool Counts Quality Mark (LCQM), and on Friday 22nd June we were invited to the celebration event at the museum on the waterfront. To an audience of over 200 people from primary and secondary schools from across the region, four of our Rubik’s cube club members performed a relay, solving their cubes in succession within a 3 minute timeframe to the theme of Mission Impossible. It was exciting, entertaining and as Mr Cubbon, maths teacher from Fazackerly High School, put it “phenomenal”, yet Theo, Matthew, Phemelo and Jason showed no sign of nerves. Also attending were some of our mini maths leaders from year 7 and maths leaders from year 9, in recognition of the quizzes, coaching and fundraising these groups have led.
Rubik’s relay Leg 1 – Theo
Rubik’s relay Leg 2 – Matthew
Rubik’s relay Leg 3 – Phemelo
Rubik’s relay Home Leg – Jason
Mission Impossible? Not for these students. Phenomenal performance.
