St Hilda’s take over the Walker Art Gallery!
On Saturday 14th April, St Hilda’s Art and Design department took over the Walker Art Gallery. Pupils from Year 10 and Students from Year 12 had their artwork exhibited in the Walker alongside world famous artworks. This project came as part of our continuing partnership with the Walker and this was our second Take Over Day. The Art work was produced in response to exhibitions that the pupils visited during the Gallery Based Learning element of their GCSE and A Level courses. Year 10 worked with Turner Prize Winning Lubaina Himid’s ‘Naming The Money’ which they visited in October. Some of our Year 10 pupils were lucky enough to hear Lubaina talk about her prize winning installation at an exclusive event at the gallery. Year 12 took part in workshops related to the Arts Council exhibition ‘Kaleidoscope’ and then had the opportunity to curate their own exhibition in the gallery.
Staff, pupils and their families also joined in weaving workshops with Artist Elizabeth Murray-Jones throughout the day.
